As a team of scientists, developers, engineers, and generally people who nerd out over all things data-driven, we at function feel strongly about encouraging others to find their path in STEM. STEM = science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and it’s a key part of function’s DNA. In general, women and girls are underrepresented in these fields and our social mission is to support and provide opportunities for them in this space.
My STEM experience straddles technology and math – what’s most empowering is that numbers themselves are powerful. Numbers don’t lie, and can be used to tell a compelling and effective story. If you can master data and learn to pull learnings and insights from numbers, you can do anything.
who is girlstart
Girlstart is an organization with a mission near and dear to our hearts – educating, exposing, and exciting young girls about STEM. ✨ They’re big on piquing girls' interests in the field at a young age, giving them better access to higher education, and providing hands-on experiences in the STEM space. And we are all about that.
our partnership
This is just the beginning. We'll be collaborating with Girlstart over the next few years to continue increasing interest in STEM electives, majors, and careers, and uplifting girls in this space. Our goal is to eventually work our way up to even bigger initiatives...but we'll keep those up our lab coat sleeves until the time is right!

Function of Beauty is doing more than changing the face of beauty. Their support of Girlstart will help to provide girls with the opportunity to be brave, creative, and curious this summer as they learn about different STEM careers, engage with role models, and experience hands-on education Together, we have a chance to change young girls' perspectives of what it means to be a woman in STEM. 24% of the science, technology, engineering, and math workforce are women, and only 5% are women of color. Function of Beauty truly understands the importance of equity and value of a diverse workforce. Girlstart is excited for the opportunity to showcase that STEM is everywhere, especially in the beauty industry.
