Hello Aries! Mercury is out of retrograde and August is all about the power of friendship for you. The full moon in your 11th house of community will literally illuminate the beauty of camaraderie. We’re social creatures and we need friendship to live healthy lives. Friends are there to be your second set of eyes if yours aren’t working right that day. A pile of friends you love and trust is better than any group therapy you’ll ever attend! Spend August nurturing friendships that nurture YOU! Relish in the growth that comes from loving and constructive criticism only a solid friend could provide. This full moon also wants you to look at how you could be a better friend! Do you check in on people regularly? Do you stand up for the people you love and believe in? Do you let your friend live with flakes all over their clothing? If you answered yes to my last question, buy them a shampoo packed with menthol and aloe vera.
My dear Taurus! It’s time to set some boundaries in August, and luckily that is your forte! The full moon on August 3rd is in your 10th house of work and authority, and it’s time to assess how you are (or aren’t) respected. One of my favorite lessons I’ve learned in 2020 so far is that I get to dictate how I will be treated, and you can too! Authority isn’t always about a boss or the police, authority also constitutes physical and emotional boundaries. Learning how to make boundaries for yourself and those around you will allow you to operate at full capacity. For example, if you have a boss who calls you after work hours making you feel taken advantage of, just stop picking up the phone and contact them at your earliest convenience. You don’t even have to tell them that you’re setting a boundary with them, you can simply set it by not engaging until you feel like it’s appropriate. Remember that being available all of the time does not equate to how “good” of a person you are, it just means you’re willing to stretch yourself thin. So put that phone in airplane mode, slap on a very well deserved nutrient rich deep conditioning mask, and bask in the glory of your new autonomy.
Hello Gemini! Welcome to your existential crisis aka August 2020! The full moon on August 3rd takes place in your 9th house of travel and higher knowledge. Don’t be scared, because this crisis is less about your life falling apart and more about you figuring out how to incorporate everything you’ve learned this year into your routine moving forward. A full moon in the house of travel indicates a broadening of your mental horizons, meaning you have the capacity to learn more than you ever had and the ability to apply it. When the pandemic is over, how will you continue to be a reliable community member in other ways? If you’ve been protesting, how do you apply your tenacity to fix injustice in the world within your own life? While you have this full moon energy, figure out how to translate your diligence and activism for humanity to your direct community and yourself. Remember that feeding your brain with tons of new information can be a big meal to digest, so give yourself the space this month to not have answers to all of your questions. Allow yourself to be teachable and take this time to get to know your new self a little more. Maybe learn what hair care would best suit your needs by taking the hair and body care quiz.
Hello to my Cancers! The state of the world aside, you’ve had an emotional 2020, and it’s just going to keep coming! There has been a heavy focus on relationships and intimacy for you this year, particularly with how you communicate your needs in them. On August 3rd, the full moon in your 8th house of sex and death (not as scary as it sounds), will continue to illuminate the work you need to do in order to grow as a person and a partner. The 8th house has a spooky reputation, but only because emotions are spooky sometimes. It has a heavy focus on the taboo, and if expressing your needs feels uncomfortable or scandalous, the moon wants you to analyze that. While you’re an open and loving person, you might have a tendency to put your needs second. No one’s ever going to understand your desires if you don’t express them, so use this time to express what you want. Maybe now’s a good time to tell your partner that you absolutely need a customized leave-in treatment in order to be a more participant in your relationship.
Happy birthday to my August Leos! We start August off with a full moon in your 7th house of relationships. Some cool questions to ask yourself right now are what do you want out of a relationship? If you’re in one now, what do you take for granted and what do you feel like you’re lacking? Do you expect certain qualities out of your partner that you don’t have? The full moon illuminates where we need to grow the most, so I suggest sitting down on August 3rd and making a list of qualities you require from someone, and see if you have those qualities in yourself. A great example is communication! Do you want a partner to be a good communicator? Healthy communication is like a group project, so make sure you’re doing your part as well. Communicating is also listening, so make sure your partner is listening to you when you tell them all you want for your birthday is a recurring 6 month long shampoo and conditioner supply.
My dear Virgos! Happy birthday to some of you! August starts off with a powerful full moon in your 6th house of work and health. If you’re into full moon manifestations, sit down on August 3rd and promise yourself that you’ll take good care of your body this month. This means cooking meals for yourself, resting (not your favorite), and making one new daily habit that says “thank you” to the countless cells that work tirelessly to keep you moving. Some easy habits are drinking enough water daily (try 32oz of water per 50lbs of body weight), washing your face at night, and/or stretching before bed. The 6th house is about practice, and the full moon wants you to implement a new one. While you are a creature of habit, you tend to put your needs behind others and that needs to change. Get into the habit of taking care of your hair while you’re at it with a vitamin packed hair serum, it’ll be one less trip to the hairdresser.
My Libras! August is kind of like the fun part of a midlife crisis where you buy a red convertible sports car before you wonder why you did it. The full moon on August 3rd resides in your 5th house of love and creativity. Sometimes our big adult goals eclipse our inner child, and while everything can’t be fun and games, we do need fun to keep us going. The world is a serious place right now, but remember that joy is an act of resistance. Having fun while being productive is the biggest middle finger to the systems in your life you feel oppressed by! Look at taking time for fun as a recharge for the work you’re going to do in the future, and not a break from the work you’ve done in the past. The 5th house also rules love, so if you’re feeling extra corny this month, just let that freak flag fly and act upon it. This full moon wants to teach you that you’ll never regret doing something out of love, so think about where you hold back your feelings in fear of how people will perceive you. Have you been wearing your hair in a really upsetting topknot on your head because you’re worried people are going to judge your split ends? Just buy a customized leave-in conditioner and stop letting your ends split.
Hello to my fellow Scorpios! Try not to literally burn your house down this August, while mixed feelings about your living situation come into play for the month. The full moon on the 3rd in your 4th house of home might make you want to make some big home shifts. This could be as minimal as reorganizing your books or as severe as breaking your lease and leaving. Before you decide upon either of those things, take the 3rd to figure out why you’re feeling that was about your home. If it’s something that can be easily fixed, fix it. If the issue isn’t actually your living situation, get to the root of the problem you’re having. We often want to change where we rest our heads when it doesn’t feel good to be in our bodies. Just remember that whoever you go, there you are. Pay attention to why you’re feeling antsy at home. If it feels more existential than a soap dish needing to get cleaned out, it probably has nothing to do with your apartment. Maybe the boogeyman in the closet is actually just the empty space in your shower caddy where a custom body wash should be.
My fiery truth seekers! Your year has been about changing your relationship to money, and if you’ve continued to pretend taxes aren’t real, August 3rd’s full moon is going to remind you that they are! Everyone has a tendency to ignore the mundane tasks in life. It’s like getting regular oil changes for your car. It’s a quick and boring thing that’s easy to do, but if you don’t do it regularly you could blow a gasket and have to throw the whole car away. Basically, August wants you to get a metaphorical oil change. Even if the pandemic has veered your sense of normalcy off course, staying on top of tiny tasks will actually help you feel more at peace while you have all the fun in the world. No one likes to cross their fingers at the coffee counter when they’re paying because they haven’t looked at their bank account in weeks, but save yourself that anxiety by staying on top of the small stuff. So check your bank account and make sure you can afford a morning coffee, but only after you’ve subscribed to get emails with discounts on custom hair care and body care.
Hello Capricorns! Time to let up on the reins of power for a bit and share control with the people you trust! The full moon on August 3rd will take place in your 2nd house of material goods. A full moon in this house brings up a lot of questions of giving and receiving, particularly how much you allow yourself to receive. Do you need help this month? Ask for it! Receiving aid from loved ones is a trust exercise. It’s essentially telling someone you love that you trust them enough to hold your hand. Asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s an act of collectivism. If you’re feeling like you’re lacking community, it could be because you never allow yourself to benefit from a community. You may feel drained because you feel like you spend all of your time giving to others and not receiving. However, chances are you aren’t allowing yourself to receive, and by not fully participating in the cycle you’ve shot yourself in the foot. A good place to start is by letting your best friend buy you that shampoo and conditioner combo you spent so much time tailoring to your needs.
Hello Aquarius! Welcome to fatigue month! If you’ve been putting yourself on the back burner, August will help you reset your focus to personal needs and happiness. The full moon on the 3rd is in your sign, which means it resides in your first house of self. Where have you been stretching yourself too thin? How many times have you suppressed your needs the past couple of months to accommodate everyone else’s? Having your needs met doesn’t always have to be a laundry list or a temper tantrum, it can be as simple as asking yourself what YOU want to do today, and doing it. The moon is linked to our feminine side, and you might be prone to wearing your heart on your sleeve right now, so remember to assert your needs without hurting anybody. If someone asks you to come do something for them, the conversation can look like “Hey I’d love to but I’m busy today!” Or, “I literally haven’t had a day to myself in months. I’m putting on my new customized deep conditioning mask and going to bed.”
Hello Pisces! August is all about alone time so don’t feel guilty not answering your phone this month. The full moon on August 3rd is in your 12th house of spirituality, and it beckons you to unleash your inner hermetic self. You see-saw between overwhelming amounts of time with swathes of people and long periods of being alone. Both of these things are okay, you just need to honor either desire when it comes up. This full moon wants you to learn that being alone doesn’t have to equate to loneliness, so learn how to enjoy spending time with yourself. Because this takes place in the 12th house, there might be an emphasis to study a new form of meditation or crack open a philosophy book that’s been sitting on your shelf for years. You’re open to learning right now, so take advantage of this opportunity and spend your alone time wisely. You could even learn the simple art of braiding your hair before bed. The trick is to run a nutrient rich serum through your tresses before you braid. You’ll thank me in the morning.
